TV / WEB SERIES FOR CHILDREN AGE  3-6 YEARS OLD

AN ENCHANTED

FOREST

My studio was commissioned the full production of an animated series based on Colectivo Animal's children's music album. This project was coproduced with Canal Trece, a public TV network, they had a fixed budget and tight deadline. Colectivo connected all the album's songs in one story and designed the format. I brought on the script writer  and production and postproduction teams.

With the budget and deadline constraints, I proposed switching from animation to using live actors and puppets in a blue screen studio. This allowed me to create a rich visual universe with mixed media digital backgrounds, cutting costs compared to building real sets. My idea was to use a theatrical treatment for the narrative, mixing the live-action footage with multilayer environments.

We filmed all nine 12-minute episodes in just seven days, thanks to careful planning and close teamwork with Adriana Arjona, the screenwriter and co-executive producer. I did many rehearsals with the actors and puppeteers to make sure everything was ready for the days on set. We used three Arri Alexa Mini cameras, with one dedicated exclusively to filming the crafting educational segments of each episode.

I oversaw the puppet-making process with three different teams, starting from my concept designs. We developed hand puppets and two costumes for actors to wear as the bear and Grandpa Ow, who needed to be able to dance freely.

The story unfolds chronologically

In Rainbow Village, the water has a mysteriously disappeared, taking the village's colors and brightness with it. Aluna and Karun, the only kids with the magic of color, are sent into the Enchanted Forest to solve the mystery. They meet magical animals like the Golden Hummingbird, Grandpa Owl, and the Little Weaver Spider. Through fun songs, they rediscover their powers and work to find the little animals whose song can bring back the rain. Eventually, they discover that the little animal if the Frog, who has turned to stone from sadness. Aluna, Karun, and their friends show her that they understand the importance of water, convincing her to sign and make it rain, restoring the water top the village.

With an audience aged 3 to 6 years old in mind, I used a mix with crayons, paper foliage, acrylic-painted leaves, and 3D modeling. I created extended sets using vibrant colors to reflect Colombia's exotic nature. Costumes for Aluna, Karun, and the band members were designed to add to the graphic style of the backgrounds.
